The current situation of garbage in Myanmar

Current situation

The 2018-2019 Irrawaddy River Plastic Waste Survey shows that Myanmar's Irrawaddy River is ranked as one of the most polluted rivers in the world, with about 100 tons of plastic emissions per day. The river is vital to more than 60% of the people living along its banks and in its basins or sub-basins. To deal with the waste, the government needs to build a better garbage collection and waste management system in townships, which will cost about $20 million per month. There are piles of plastic waste in the river, which eventually flows into the ocean. If the dumping of plastic in the Irrawaddy River is not reduced, plastic waste will accumulate on the riverbed, causing the river to rise and causing riverbank erosion. The large amount of plastic pollution in the river can also seriously damage the soil, food chain, biological ecosystems and local residents.

In central Myanmar, residents near the river store most of their garbage on the riverbank, in home backyards and in small illegal backyards built by their own homes. The stored waste was dumped into the river during the first flood. In a regional survey of the types of plastics that contribute to Myanmar's plastic pollution, plastic packaging for instant coffee accounted for 7%, plastic bottle caps accounted for 62%, plastic packaging bags for betel nuts accounted for 22%, and foam plastics accounted for 9%. In addition, 119 tons of plastic flow into the Irrawaddy River every day.

Processing

This way of dealing with garbage is very undesirable. It not only affects the ecological environment, but also affects people's lives. These garbage can be collected and incinerated in professional municipal solid waste incinerators. The steam generated during the incineration process can be used in multiple industries, such as power plants, paper mills, etc. The flue gas generated by combustion will also be professionally purified to meet emission standards.
